A word has an apparent equivalent: a gesture looks familiar, a literary reference is translated, a historical allusion is briefly explained. Yet the real difficulty often begins there, where the surface meaning is clear and the deeper pressure of context remains hidden. I help you notice that second layer.   • I’m Dr. Irina Kisielowa, PhD in Slavonic Studies, an award-winning literary translator, academic teacher, and cultural coach with decades of experience in international academic and cultural environments.
  • I have translated more than 100 books, plays, films, and documentaries from Polish and German into Russian.
